Carl R Rogers
Welcome, and thank you for visiting KG Counselling.
Hello there, I’m Karen Goodhew a qualified and registered therapeutic counsellor. My practice is based in Brentwood, Romford and Barkingside. I help those over the age of 18 who are looking for mental health support. I offer a warm, comfortable space for you to feel at ease and speak openly about what’s going on for you. Together we can work through your challenges and help you to lead a more fulfilling and purposeful life. I can help you with grief and loss, anxiety, depression, stress, traumatic events or any other difficulties which are affecting your mental health.
I work holistically with each client, which means I work with mental, physical, and spiritual factors, tailoring our sessions to suit your specific needs, and helping you to make lifestyle changes to carry and arm you with tools and techniques to use in your daily life. I am here to help you understand yourself with empathic support and genuine care, leading to healing and personal growth.
Beginning therapy is an opportunity for you to sit, reflect, understand, and discover your true self, to be present with another human being, feel valued, accepted, and your voice to be heard unconditionally and with compassion.
The sessions are all guided by you, it will be an opportunity to speak openly and honestly without judgment. Through empathic support and genuine care, we guide you in becoming your true self to help you reach your fullest potential.
My core approach to our work together is in a Person-Centred way, which encourages you to explore your own experience, as you are the expert on yourself. I also work in an integrative way, which means I draw on different approaches to suit your needs, I also work creatively at times, to encourage and facilitate self-expression and a deeper understanding of your true self.
We are all unique individuals, so each person I work with will be different and collaboratively create a plan to help you work towards growth and healing.
Therapy can help you to gain self-awareness and take control of those intrusive thoughts, feelings and behaviours which may be holding you back from pursuing a more fulfilling life.
The focus of our work together is to enable expression of your emotions in a way that brings peace, understanding, and healing, furthermore, to work towards growth and change.
Grief Counselling
If you have lost a loved one and need some support navigating your grief, grief counselling can help you to navigate the journey ahead. After the loss of a loved one, we are never prepared for the emotional rollercoaster that follows us in our tracks.
Integral Eye Movement Therapy
Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) is a rapid and effective non-disclosure therapy, which uses eye movement techniques to create change.
Integral Eye Movement Therapy is beneficial for addressing grief, loss, anxiety, depression, negative thinking, phobias, and traumatic life experiences.
Men’s Counselling
I specialise in counselling for men, currently offering face-to-face and online sessions.
We lose too many men to suicide each year, believing they would be better off dead. The fear, shame, embarrassment, and expectations placed on men prevent them from seeking counselling, or any support for their well-being and mental health.
I am a trained bereavement counsellor, I worked in a hospice for several years supporting those with difficult life transitions, grief, and loss, and navigating their journeys.
I am also very passionate about men’s mental health.
I am not limited to only these areas, I can also help with:
Anxiety
Abuse emotional
Grief, loss or bereavement
Trauma
Family conflicts and issues
Depression
Abuse physical
Generalised Anxiety Disorder
Low self-worth, confidence,
and self-esteem
And much more, reach out for a free initial consultation.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07449339151 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
Counselling is a safe space for you to explore you as a whole, including your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, helping you to understand certain aspects of you and significant others in your life, the main focus being on you. Working through your fears, anxieties, grief.
Each session is 50 minutes (Therapeutic hour).
Ideally weekly on the same day/time. This is in order for the therapeutic relationship to establish and you to begin to trust your therapist. Also, to gain the most from sessions, feeling comfortable to express and explore how you are feeling.
We offer short- and long-term sessions, depending on what you are hoping to gain. You can speak with your therapist in the first session about your needs and requirements. There are no fixed number of sessions, you are in control and can end whenever you feel appropriate. We would request notice prior to ending so we can end the therapeutic relationship accordingly.
It will as long as it is safe to do so, we have a legal and ethical obligation to break confidentiality if we feel you are of harm to yourself or others, particularly children or vulnerable adults. As well as any serious criminal activity, such as an act of terrorism. Child protection or money laundering.
Of course, if you need to change an appointment day/time. If you feel you are in need of urgent help, then please call 999 or contact Samaritans on 116 123 if you need to speak to someone in-between sessions.
My practice is based in Brentwood, Romford and Barkingside.
In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions via Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
Sessions are 50 minutes, ideally weekly, and my fee is £75-£90 per session. I offer a limited amount of concessions, please message me to find out more. There is a 48 hour cancellation policy, otherwise full fee is required.
