Grief Counselling

Supporting you on your grief journey

If you have lost a loved one and need some support navigating your grief, grief counselling can help you to navigate the journey ahead.  After the loss of a loved one, we are never prepared for the emotional rollercoaster that follows us in our tracks.

Death, bereavement, loss, grief are all part of the cycle of life, none of us are exempt from experiencing this.

When we are faced with the heaviness of grief, we are never prepared for the overwhelming feelings associated with loss, grief, and mourning.  Grief counselling is a space to work through, explore and express your thoughts and feelings.

There are many ways grief can show up:

Shock

Anger

Resentment

Guilt

Anguish

Numbness

Isolation – wanting to be alone

Loneliness

Anxiety

Hopelessness

Sleep disturbance

Changes in eating – either overeating or undereating

Physical body aches and pains

Brain fog and lack of motivation

Cruse Bereavement explains a little more about the complexities of grief:

Frequently asked questions

What is counselling?

Counselling is a safe space for you to explore you as a whole, including your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, helping you to understand certain aspects of you and significant others in your life, the main focus being on you. Working through your fears, anxieties, grief.

How long is a session?

Each session is 50 minutes (Therapeutic hour).

How often will we have a session?

Ideally weekly on the same day/time. This is in order for the therapeutic relationship to establish and you to begin to trust your therapist. Also, to gain the most from sessions, feeling comfortable to express and explore how you are feeling.

How many sessions will I need?

We offer short- and long-term sessions, depending on what you are hoping to gain. You can speak with your therapist in the first session about your needs and requirements. There are no fixed number of sessions, you are in control and can end whenever you feel appropriate. We would request notice prior to ending so we can end the therapeutic relationship accordingly.

Will everything I say remain confidential?

It will as long as it is safe to do so, we have a legal and ethical obligation to break confidentiality if we feel you are of harm to yourself or others, particularly children or vulnerable adults. As well as any serious criminal activity, such as an act of terrorism. Child protection or money laundering.

Can I contact you between sessions?

Of course, if you need to change an appointment day/time. If you feel you are in need of urgent help, then please call 999 or contact Samaritans on 116 123 if you need to speak to someone in-between sessions.
